Tickets now available for the World Premiere of my Folk Suite ‘The Beating Heart of Ulster’

Fermanagh & Omagh District Council in partnership with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann’s regional centre Dún Uladh and the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association NI (RSPBA NI), have commissioned a unique piece of music for a ‘two traditions’ orchestra. The commission, from award-winning composer Áine Mallon, is entitled The Beating Heart of Ulster and celebrates the rich musical heritage from both Irish and Ulster Scots traditions as well as the local landscape. This suite will be performed in venues across Northern Ireland in November 2019. Flotsam Preview

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting some fresh new recordings of my recent works for you to listen to!! First up we have my String Quartet ‘Flotsam’, written for and performed beautifully by the Piatti Quartet on their 2018 tour of N.Ireland. Flotsam is a sonic exploration of how plastic pollution in our oceans is affecting marine life. The juxtaposition of nature and life, with the sad reality of plastic refuse causing the death of hundreds of animals per year, is prevalent in this quasi-programmatic work. Have a listen HERE… Áine x
